Increasing Capacity

Much of the airports’ Infrastructure is beyond replacement age. Passenger traffic is increasing and more transpacific flights are flying direct to Kahului, Lihue and Kona airports. Demand for Commuter Terminal and General Aviation facilities is growing rapidly.  Commuter Terminals in Honolulu, Kahului, Kona and Lihue are inadequate, as well as General Aviation ramp space in Kahului, Kona, Lihue and Hilo. Existing parking facilities are inadequate to meet the increased demand.

A primary focus of the Modernization Program will be to increase capacity throughout our airports system. Terminal buildings will be expanded and concourses will be added to expand capacity and accommodate additional gates. Ultimately, our airports will have substantially greater capacity, be much more efficient and easier to get around, allowing travelers to focus on their destination rather than the difficulty of their journey.
